I have worked with Kara Malo, the founder and lead teacher of Strive 2Write, for 4 years and I still contact her to ask for the strategies she uses for teaching students to organize their writing because it was so effective. As a special ed teacher, and even having co-taught with Kara one year, the ways she teaches students to become better writers truly works for ALL types of learners! Students are not given graphic organizers, but rather taught how to make their own plan for writing and use that to then further develop a well organized writing piece. I think this program is what all kids need, especially after what has been lost with learning over the Covid 19 Pandemic I think what Kara did made more sense than using a graphic organizer when it came to Narrative writing. It gave me as a teacher, a clear direction already organized for students. It also allowed me to teach to the organized format, knowing the students needed to understand what a lively lead, was, and what pain the picture meant. This method seemed more realistic than having to “find” the right graphic organizer. I felt like there were lessons engrained in the steps of her method.

As a mom of twins, it is nice to have a curriculum that both my son and daughter can engage in with their own book interests and writing ideas. Before Strive2Write, my kids' writing was very disorganized and lacked proper grammar and punctuation. After taking the Narrative course with Kara Malo, my kids were able to plan a story, using their notebook, and then follow that over into typing a full, organized story on a Google doc. The way she teaches writing makes sense for how kids will need to write in our world today. They learned to organize their writing into paragraphs, became so much better at adding details and there are even amazing lessons for grammar and punctuation. AND they have fun! They did not argue with me when doing these lessons, which is incredible. They loved the bonus drawing lessons and digital assignments where they can add pictures to their stories. You truly get it all in the Narrative Writing Course. The best part is that Kara was available to meet with my kids whenever we needed her to further develop their narrative writing skills. We can't wait for when the Narrative State Testing course is available. We will definitely be signing up! I highly recommended the program Strive2Write for anyone looking to have their kids participate in an online program that offers real results for growth in both reading and writing. The lessons in Strive2Write were engaging and interactive like they advertise! The lessons gave my daughter actual writing skills better than other online sources. The connection between reading and writing is authentic and makes sense for how kids learn. The plan that Strive2Write teaches kids for organizing their writing is amazing! My daughter can organize her thoughts using this plan and then write a detailed story, organized in paragraphs, with details etc. I highly recommend Strive2Write to anyone looking for an engaging reading and writing curriculum for their middle schooler.

What a God send!!! I definitely recommend this self paced program. Ms. Kara is a passionate teacher. I no longer feel like I have to teach everything. I was concerned initially about my children’s writing. With her foundational teaching , I feel confident that they will become great writers, as they too Strive 2 Write! Thank you Ms. Kara!!

My son has loved the strive2write teaching program. It was so engaging and really helped him to become comfortable with the reading and writing connection. He never wanted to read or write before the classes, but the lessons that Strive2Write delivered are so engaging especially for kids who enjoy art. The digital projects are also amazing!! I couldn't recommend Strive2Write enough!
